2013 Wrap-Up

Well, a lot has happened since our last post here :)
We've been pretty busy with the development and support of SpeedRunners, which left us with little time to post any updates here. We're very active on the Steam forum and on Twitter though, so if you want to keep up to date on any and all SpeedRunners-related news, we suggest you head over to the Steam forum or follow us on twitter. In 2014, this blog will focus more on general DoubleDutch updates.
2013 has been a great year for us, but before I start reminiscing, I want to give a quick update on SpeedRunners' development and talk about all the things that have been happening in the past few months.
First of all, we've pushed a couple of new updates to SpeedRunners. We're currently at version r20, and many more updates are still to be expected. The updates so far include (amongst many other things) a much-debated fix for the boost-jumping exploit, many important bugfixes, the addition of a new weapon (shockwave), a couple of new maps and the re-addition of the single player mode. For a full list of changes, see the SpeedRunners Forum on Steam.
In other news: in case you didn't hear this yet, or have forgotten about it; the offline version of SpeedRunners will be available completely free upon launch! Anyone will be able to download it and play with friends on a couch, or against bots if they don't have a couch. The online part of SpeedRunners will be what you'd have to pay for. The main reason we're doing this is to get as many people as possible in contact with the game. We've found that once people start playing this game, they almost unanimously seem to love it. So in that sense we're hopeful that they'll also want to spend some money on buying the full game and supporting our development.
We've also been doing a little ARG for SpeedRunners for the last two weeks, during the Steam Christmas Sale, which is going to end tomorrow. The ARG been a really fun and rewarding experience for us so far, and a fun way to get players more involved. It revolved around unlocking a much-requested feature in the game, so I can imagine players enjoyed it as well.
We've been lucky enough to have SpeedRunners featured on a flash sale during the Christmas Sale, which helped us very much in reaching a bigger audience. Also, SpeedRunners was named by Mike Rose (editor at Gamasutra) as one of his top 5 games of 2013, which was really awesome. Northernlion included the game on his top lists as well, as one of the best Early Access games and his favourite multiplayer game of the year. Wow!
It's been really amazing to see how well SpeedRunners has been received so far. From reaching many thousands of players around the world (WAY more than I had expected), to seeing the game getting picked up and enjoyed by big youtubers, to reading all the positive comments and getting feedback on the Steam Forum, twitter and email. It's such an enormous boost to read about someone enjoying your game and being excited about it that it makes you all excited about working on it all over again.
So, a big thank you to everyone who enjoyed SpeedRunners and took the time to let us know about it! We hope you'll enjoy all the additions we have planned for 2014 as well!
